As part of International Human Rights Day, Shmaya joined Haifa Municipality for a
hands-on parent-and-child activity at Beit Heineh Community Center. The day gave
children a unique glimpse into the world of people with hearing impairments.
At our interactive booth, kids met our professional interpreters, explored the basics of
sign language, and learned how communication can be both visual and expressive.
Through real-life examples—like the rustle of a snack wrapper signaling a treat—they
discovered the gap between sound and silence, and the ways deaf children experience
the world differently.
This activity reflects Shmaya’s commitment to awareness, inclusion, and empathy.
Beyond outreach, our Haifa cultural club offers year-round programs for deaf and hard-
of-hearing individuals, including social gatherings, lectures, and activities—all in sign
language.
We thank Haifa Municipality and our dedicated team for helping make the world more
